Epilogue III · The Refusal and the Challenge of Jooya

شاه، رستم را در جای خوبی نشاند و رستم نامه را برای او خواند.

Shâh, Rostam râ dar jâ-ye khoobee neshând va Rostam nâme râ barâ-ye oo khând.

The Shah seated Rostam in a place of honor, and Rostam read the letter aloud to him.

شاه عصبانی شد و گفت: «برو به شاهت بگو که به ایران برگردد و جان خودش را نجات دهد.»

Shâh asabânee shod va goft: «Boro be shâhat begoo ke be Irân bargardad va jân-e khodash râ nejât dahad.»

The Shah grew angry and said: "Go tell your king to return to Iran and save his own life."

«من هرگز پیش او نمی‌آیم.»

«Man hargez peesh-e oo nemeeâyam.»

"I will never come before him."

رستم برگشت و پیام را به کیکاووس رساند و به او گفت: «هیچ نترس. من همه‌ی آن‌ها را نابود می‌کنم.»

Rostam bargasht va payâm râ be Keykâvus resând va be oo goft: «Heech natars. Man hame-ye ânhâ râ nâbud meekonam.»

Rostam returned and gave the message to Kay Kāvus, telling him: "Do not fear at all. I will destroy all of them."

رستم که رفت، سپاه دیوان آماده‌ی جنگ شدند.

Rostam ke raft, sepâh-e deevân âmâde-ye jang shodand.

When Rostam had gone, the demon army readied itself for battle.

کیکاووس هم وقتی خبر را شنید، سپاه را آماده‌ی جنگ کرد.

Keykâvus ham vaghtee khabar râ sheneed, sepâh râ âmâde-ye jang kard.

Kay Kāvus, when he heard the news, also readied his army for battle.

دو سپاه روبه‌روی هم قرار گرفتند.

Do sepâh roo-be-roo-ye ham gharâr gereftand.

The two armies took up positions facing each other.

در سپاه مازندران، پهلوانی بود به نام جویا.

Dar sepâh-e Mâzandarân, pahlavânee bud be nâm-e Jooyâ.

In the army of Mazandaran was a champion named Jooya.

او به سپاه ایران آمد و گفت: «کسی هست با من بجنگد؟»

Oo be sepâh-e Irân âmad va goft: «Kasee hast bâ man bejangad?»

He rode out to the Iranian army and called: "Is there anyone who will fight me?"

صدایی از کسی درنیامد.

Sedâ-yee az kasee darnayâmad.

No voice answered from anyone.
